Bloomsburg Splits Doubleheader vs. Mansfield; Reed Throws One-Hit Shutout

GAME ONE BOX SCORE

GAME TWO BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG-Tara Reed (Williamsport/ Williamsport) pitched a one-hit shutout to lead the Bloomsburg University Softball team to a 4-0 victory over Mansfield in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday. The Huskies dropped the first game 2-0.

Reed struck out 12 batters and allowed just two base runners to reach base safely, allowing a single in the top of the second and a walk in the top of the fifth.

Bloomsburg opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Jennifer Miller (Muir/Williams Valley) singled home Kelly Zarski (Paxinos/Danville) for the first run of the game. Lisa Bohner (Northumberland/Shikellamy) then tripled home Miller and Stacy Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0 after three innings. That would be more than enough for Reed, who improved to 9-3 on the year with the win.

In game two, Bloomsburg struggled to get anything going offensively against Mansfield pitcher Kristen Dean. Dean held the Huskies to just six hits and no runs.

Mansfield got an early lead, when Jessica Christ singled home Sytvia Steitz in the top of the first. Mansfield would then add an insurance run when Shana Markwis hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth.

Bloomsburg is now 23-9, 6-2 in the PSAC East, while Mansfield is 15-8, 1-5 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg will host Millersville on Monday at 2:30 p.m.

Notes: Tara Reed's streak of consecutive innings without a walk ended at 29, when she walked a batter in the fifth inning.
